Trying a different technique. My goal is to make a series of pieces like this, though I'm not sure how many there will be exactly. I am currently working on another one.
Each of the drawings in this potential series is based off a mid-19th century photograph. Early photography (mostly late 1830s-1860s) fascinates me to no end. I am obsessed with it. We will never know the full story behind most of these images, adding to their mystique. This particular lady, however, is a maid that was admitted to an asylum because she fell apart under the pressure of being overworked. She alone was in charge of taking care of about 20 or so rooms, but was unable to keep up with all of the work. When working on this, I tried to frame her loosely in torn and singed paper, representing how she might have felt at the time. I wonder if she ever got better! :C
